Infant Bioethics Review Committee

Health care decisions for sick newborns should be shaped by parental wishes and needs, guided by the advice of the child's health care professionals.

Depending on the nature of the ethical problem, the Infant Bioethics Review Committee may meet with the medical care givers, parents, and family members to help clarify issues and reach decisions, or may meet with the patient's care giving team to address health care policy and patient care issues.

Confidential access is available to trained Bioethics professionals, who can assist and guide both families and staff through the decision making process. They also can provide educational materials to increase the knowledge of parents and health care professionals.

Anyone can request a meeting with the Infant Bioethics Review Committee, by calling The Division of Bioethics at 718-920-6226 or 718-904-2299, the Neonatology Office at 718-904-4105, or the Patient Relations Office at 718-904-2395.
