Bronchoscopy and Airway Management
Children who have been diagnosed with pulmonary disease benefit greatly from the state-of-the-art equipment in our outpatient bronchoscopy suite. We use flexible fiberoptic bronchoscopy to diagnose and treat a wide range of pediatric respiratory diseases, including:
- Noisy breathing in infancy
- Chronic cough
- Vocal cord dysfunction
- Asthma that is difficult to control
- Tracheobronchomalacia
- Chronic or recurrent pneumonia
- Obstructive sleep apnea
Children with complex pediatric airway disorders have access to a unique, multidisciplinary program at CHAM that is the only one of its kind in the Northeastern United States. The Airway Team is a unique collaboration between nationally renowned physicians and experts, including a pediatric pulmonologist, pediatric ENT specialist, and cardiothoracic surgeon. Our team offers specialized expertise in the treatment of children, from newborns to age 21, with conditions including tracheal obstructions or masses, feeding disorders, sleep abnormalities, including apneas, and "blue spells." Together, we provide a multi-disciplinary evaluation and then hold a conference, which may include additional pediatric airway specialists, including anesthesiologists, pediatric critical care specialists, pediatric radiologists and members of our highly skilled nursing staff, to decide the best surgical and medical treatment options.
