Aristea S Galanopoulou M.D. Ph.D.
Dr. Galanopoulou is an Assistant Professor of Neurology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Galanopoulou received her M.D. from the National University of Athens School of Medicine, Athens, Greece in 1988, and her Ph.D. in Molecular Neuroendocrinology from McGill University, Montreal, Canada in 1995. She trained in Internal Medicine at Union Memorial Hospital, Baltimore MD (1994-95), Adult Neurology (1995-98) and Clinical Neurophysiology (Epilepsy / EEG, Neuromuscular / EMG, 1998-99) at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, New York.

Dr. Galanopoulou is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (1999-2009) with special qualification in Clinical Neurophysiology (2000-2010), and is currently an attending at the Clinical Neuroscience Center and EMG lab at Montefiore Medical Center.

Since 1999, Dr. Galanopoulou has been involved in research studying the effects of estrogens on seizure-induced hippocampal injury (funded by the Epilepsy Foundation of America), the sexual dimorphic features of the substantia nigra reticulata neurons involved in seizure control, and the design of gene delivery methods aiming to decrease the susceptibility of the immature brain to generalized seizures.
