Treatment Specifics

In every area of treatment, CHAM offers a superlative team of pediatric specialists working together to determine the best and most effective course of treatment for each patient individually. Our patients benefit from decades of combined expertise and access to the latest technology and treatment methods. In addition, CHAM is passionate and proactive about developing new treatments and participating in clinical trials across the globe.

Leukemia

Treatment for childhood leukemia — including acute lymphocytic leukemia and acute myelogenous leukemia — usually involves a highly personalized combination of chemotherapy and sometimes radiation therapy. In addition, whenever possible, we use outpatient chemotherapy so that our patients can enjoy the comfort of their own homes during extended treatment. In cases of recurring or aggressive forms of leukemia, CHAM’s outstanding bone-marrow transplantation program provides us with the full range of options in one location.

Lymphoma

In many cases, we are able to treat children and adolescents with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma with chemotherapy alone — often on an outpatient basis. For patients with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma or more advanced NHL, we complement chemotherapy with radiation therapy. When necessary, we are uniquely equipped to provide high-dose chemotherapy and the accompanying bone marrow transplantation all within CHAM.

Brain Tumors

The treatment of brain tumors in children is a delicate matter. We rely on the combined expertise of our multi-disciplinary Tumor Board, which meets weekly to determine the best course of treatment for each patient individually. CHAM’s experts excel at performing and administering any combination of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy to children of all ages for the best possible outcome.

Sickle Cell Disease

CHAM’s outstanding Sickle Cell program offers a dynamic approach to managing sickle cell disease and its side effects. Treatment is determined on a case-by-case basis and may include a combination of medicine management, pain management, psychotherapy, behavior modification, antidepressants and other ancillary treatments. A sophisticated balance of approaches is administered by our highly skilled, specialized team of physicians, nurse practitioners, therapists and support staff.

Sarcomas

Whenever possible, CHAM treats childhood sarcomas with surgery, performed by some of the nation’s finest pediatric and orthopedic surgeons. When necessary, patients may also receive a combination of radiation therapy and chemotherapy to further improve their health and aid their recovery.

Neuroblastoma

CHAM treats each patient with neuroblastoma on an individualized basis, determining the best combination of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy for each patient. When high intensity chemotherapy is necessary, our patients have access to our world-class bone marrow transplantation team.
