With its roots in the work and vision of Dr. John F. Rosen, a pediatrician and researcher who began his career at Montefiore Medical Center in 1969, the Division offers:

  • A nationally recognized Lead Poisoning Prevention Program. This program was named a New York State Regional Resource Center for Lead Poisoning Prevention in 1993,
  • An innovative residential facility, the Lead Safe House, which provides temporary, lead-safe apartments for families whose homes are undergoing lead removal work,
  • A distinguished team of multi-disciplinary professionals in medicine, research, social services, environmental investigation, and public advocacy,
  • Staff with expertise in the toxic effects of uranium, cadmium, arsenic, mercury and lead in infants and children,
  • Both clinical and bench research,
  • A weekly clinic for children with metabolic disorders, primarily lead poisoning but also:
  • Iron deficiency anemia
  • Calcium metabolism
  • Heavy metal poisoning
  • Hypercalcemia
  • Hypocalcemia
  • Hypoparathyroidism
  • Iron deficiency
  • Osteoporosis
  • Rickets
  • Vitamin D deficiency
