Women Infants and Children Programs

The Montefiore WIC Program safeguards the health of low-income women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at nutritional risk by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, nutrition education, and referrals to health care and other social services.

WIC believes that early intervention programs during critical times of growth and development can help prevent medical and developmental problems.

The WIC program serves over 8,000 participants monthly across three locations within the Bronx. Montefiore has sponsored the program for over twenty years.

Who is eligible?
All kinds of families qualify for WIC. You may or may not be working. You may be a student. You may be single or married. You may live with your parents. You must also meet the following guidelines:

  • Be a pregnant, breastfeeding or postpartum woman, or have an infant or children up to five years of age; and
  • Be a New York State resident; and
  • Be at nutritional risk as determined by a WIC-certified professional authority; and
  • Be within the income guidelines set by the State OR be receiving Food Stamps, Medicaid or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)

WIC does not require proof of citizenship. You may be eligible for WIC even if you are no longer receiving Medicaid or Food Stamps. If necessary, the WIC staff will speak with your healthcare provider to help you get the WIC services you need.

If you give birth at Weiler Hospital, look for our Breastfeeding Coordinator. She will visit you on certain days and help you get started.
