Quality of Care
The Pediatric Heart Center maintains excellence in quality of care through structural and processing measures as well as outcomes control.
The overall quality is supervised by a Quality of Care Officer dedicated to the Pediatric Heart Center: Steven Choi, MD.
- There are early daily rounds in the ICU with surgeons, cardiologists and intensivists.
- There is a weekly clinical conference in which all hospitalized patient cases are discussed in detail.
- There is a weekly Grand Round Scientific Lecture addressing all issues in the Heart Institute.
- Several Montefiore databases maintain patient information. Our data are sent to the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) national database and New York State database for national reporting and outcome comparison with other U.S. centers.
François Lacour-Gayet, MD, is a pioneer in the evaluation of quality of care in pediatric cardiac surgery. The Aristotle score introduced by Dr. Lacour-Gayet is used worldwide to measure the risks of congenital heart surgery.
