Volunteer at CHAM
Our many volunteers give their time and energy to patients of all ages. Volunteers include retirees, adults, college students, and teenagers. The benefits of their efforts extend well beyond the hours of service that they give.
Some of our special volunteer assignments include:
Bookmobile - deliver resource materials to the pediatric units and clinics. This program integrates parent education and referral services.
Child Life Program - assist professional staff in recreational activities with children at bedside and/or playroom.
Child Protection Program - volunteers serve as tracking specialists, ensuring that children who have been through the center receive the social services they need, get to their appointments, and go to school. Some volunteers organize and supervise structural play for children when parents are attending workshops.
Family Learning Place – a resource center.
Foster Grandparents Program - assignments in the pediatric units and outpatient clinics.
Helping Hands Program - assist unit clerks and nursing staff on the units.
Interpreter Program - join the Language Bank or serve as translators in the Emergency Department and the various clinics.
Professional Pro Bono - volunteers with managerial skills work on special projects, telephone outreach, and other areas.
Reach Out and Read Program - volunteer to read to children waiting for treatment by their health care provider.
Student Internships - combine volunteerism with hands on training and experiential learning.
Tutorial Program - work with children ages 5-19 years old who are affected by AIDS.
Volunteers on Call - assist with special events such as the Children's Health Fair, senior citizen events, MontePlus, and community outreach programs.
